We are shovel ready!

Construction works will commence on the club buildings after Easter, and we plan to be back in them well before our main Christmas patrol obligations.

Following a competitive tender process over summer, we have appointed a highly regarded head-contractor, Livingstone Building, to undertake the primary renovation and remediation of our club buildings as envisaged by the Project Transform design and plans.

We have been successful in securing a fixed price arrangement for all the critical aspects of the project – seismic strengthening; improvements to operational zones; and enhancement of several spaces, access ways and linkages. We have committed funds in place to cover our build contract made up of our own fundraising; SLSNZ funding and a Lotteries Grant.

A big thank you to members and friends of the club for all of the support to get us to this key milestone. Special call out for life-member Bryan Black who heads the project team and has been integral to getting this project moving, both from a fundraising and construction perspective.

Fundraising… Stage 2

Funds are in place to do the primary renovation and remediation work we need. However, to properly re-fresh a number of internal spaces of the Club; and provide some key aesthetic features as part of the Transform changes, we need to raise at least another $300K. The project team believe that this additional work will materially enhance the overall member and visitor experience of our new spaces. The team are already working on a range of funding options.

This is the point in time for those members and friends of the club who have been considering a donation to help us deliver the transformation we want.

Donations can also be made directly into our bank account. Details are: BNZ Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club (Inc) Building Account No.: 021254 0027806 010 or donate online

Vacating the Club – We will need your help

To ensure our tight timelines can be met the club needs to be completely vacated over Easter and there will be no access to the club until Labour Weekend at the earliest.

Club management is working with our Lifeguard; Lifesaving Sport and Junior Surf Committee leads to nominate “owners” for areas/activities – so a pack-up and throw out can be achieved over Easter weekend. We will need everyone’s help with this. Please look out for the separate communications on Easter for details of the clean-out process.

An off-site storage location has been secured and the club administration team will also move off-site. Transporting club gear to these sites will occur during the week after Easter (or just before Easter for our administration team). The SAR team will be located off-site with all their necessary equipment.

Club management is also working with Committees on plans for off-season activities and if some constraints remain on access at Labour weekend.

There will be a drop-in session on Project Transform over Easter. Timings will be in the general Easter update.
